TEN is working with Rob McFarlane to develop a fish farm model that could be replicated. Initially we are helping develop a pilot fish farm at TANU, near Soroti in Eastern Uganda..
Rob McFarlane has a horticultural background and worked in the Middle East for over 30 years. He is now based in Entebbe where he is completing the set up of a training centre for high density tank fish farming. This has the added benefit of working well with growing market garden produce using the Farming God’s Way method, recycling replaced tank water.
The approach uses above ground tanks and is best suited to Catfish, which are especially resilient an have a strong local market.
Rob sent TEN a short video on 30 November 2022 with an update and thanks you for our support, do take a look here.
The first pilot site, at TANU has now been built (see pic below) and the first fingerlings are growing fast. The site is expected to be at full capacity by early 2024. TANU will train students and income from the fish farm will help TANU's vocational training to be financial sustainable.
The aim is to develop partnerships between Rob (as franchisor), investors and operators (franchisees) so that the model can be replicated.
